Reddit Adds Tools to Help Publishers Share Their Content in the App
Reddit aims to increase publisher participation in its diverse communities by introducing new features intended to assist web publishers in sharing their content and evaluating engagement within the platform.
To start, Reddit is introducing a new “Links” section in Reddit Pro, its suite of publishing and analytics tools launched last year. In this section, publishers will have the opportunity to view insights regarding the engagement of the links they have shared in the app.
Publishers can see which of their stories are being shared on Reddit, which communities they’re shared in, and critical data like views, upvotes, and clicks. This data assists them in developing their strategy and expanding their audience on the platform.
This might be extremely beneficial in establishing a broader Reddit strategy and ensuring that your material connects with Reddit’s highly engaged viewers, which are frequently the beginning point for broader online sharing.
Publishers will also be able to connect their RSS feeds and immediately import their articles to Reddit Pro, allowing them to be instantaneously shared across Reddit, while Reddit will also provide publishers with AI-powered recommendations of communities to post their material in.
This will make it easier to publish your work within the app, however people are curious what kind of license Reddit will then have to use your content for any purpose.
Because Reddit has been focussing more on data sales in order to increase money. Linking your RSS feed does not necessarily grant Reddit access to all of your content.
Reddit’s also testing out its own media viewer option, which would enable Reddit users to read articles direct within the app itself.
Which, again, raises concerns about the data that this allows Reddit to acquire with such integration, but the idea is that by making it easier to read stories in-stream, the resulting debate may then be posted on Reddit, increasing community involvement.
These are very interesting ideas, and I appreciate Reddit’s desire to bring more of the most recent news content into the app in order to power more live, active, and relevant discussions. And they will most likely do so, but it is worth noting the relevant data items and how Reddit may profit from them as well.
