OpenAI is going to launch its next big GPT AI model in December: What to expect
As we all know, ChatGPT, developed by OpenAI, is a major advancement in artificial intelligence. Unlike traditional search engines like Google, which show links to websites, ChatGPT provides direct, conversational answers to questions and generates content in real-time. This makes it a more dynamic and interactive way to access information. ChatGPT could play a bigger role in customer support, content creation, and education as it continues to improve. While search engines remain important, ChatGPT’s ability to understand context and engage in conversation offers users a more personalized and intuitive alternative.
Apart from these, Microsoft-supported AI Company OpenAI reportedly plans to launch its next big AI model by December. The new model, called Orion, is expected to be released by the end of this year, according to The Verge.
The report says that unlike OpenAI’s current models GPT-4 and the 01-series, the new Orion AI model won’t first be released on the ChatGPT chatbot. Instead, it will be given to partner companies to create their products. It also mentioned that Microsoft, OpenAI’s main partner is getting ready to host the new model on its Azure cloud platform, possibly next month.
The Verge stated that an OpenAI executive informed the media outlet that the new Orion AI model is up to 100 times more powerful than the GPT-4 model and is separate from the newly released o1 model, which is focused entirely on reasoning and problem-solving. It is also reported that OpenAI has been using synthetic data provided by the o1 model to train Orion.
OpenAI completed the training process for the new model last month. The new Orion model is a true successor to the GPT-4 model; however, it remains to be seen if OpenAI will name it GPT-5. Additionally, OpenAI could also push the release date to next year.
