Everything You Need to Know About Google Vids
What is Google Vids?
Google Vids is an AI tool that helps you make videos easily. You can add pictures, voiceovers, and background music. It’s available for people using Google Workspace, starting from $14 per user each month with the Business Standard plan.
At first, Vids feels like a mix of Google Slides and Google Gemini. The scenes in Vids look like slides in Google Slides. Both tools have many of the same formatting options. You can add the same types of media to Vids as you do in Slides like animations, transitions, GIFs, and photos from Google Drive and Google Photos.
But Vids also lets you bring in new types of media to your projects, including:
- Stock photos, videos, and music
- Screen recordings (with or without a video of you)
- AI-generated photos and videos
- Voiceovers
Before you rush to use Vids to make your next big movie, there’s something to keep in mind. Google Vids is not meant for creating high-end films like the ones shown at SXSW. Right now, a finished video in Vids looks more like a Google Slides presentation with some extra features.
Still, those extra features are helpful for making more interesting and useful videos like product demos, team updates, meeting summaries, and onboarding videos. Here’s a quick example to show you what that looks like.
Does Google Vids integrate with other Google Workspace tools?
Google Vids integrates with some Google Workspace apps. For example, if you’re using Gemini to create a video, you can tag a Google Doc in your prompt to give it more context. You can also import images, videos, and audio stored in Google Photos and Google Drive, as well as export your Google Vids files to Google Drive.
In short, Google Vids is a smart and easy tool for making simple, professional-looking videos. While it’s not built for high-end filmmaking, it’s perfect for creating engaging content like tutorials, updates, and presentations. With its AI features and familiar Google tools, it’s a great option for businesses and teams.
